A collaboration between Selene and the Corelli Orchestra, whose director Warwick Cole has edited Stölzel’s Passion setting, which carries the splendid full title Die Leidende und am Creutz Sterbende Liebe Jesu. Widely performed in early eighteenth century Germany, it features poetry written by the composer himself and avoids any named characters or direct quotations from the bible. It was performed by JS Bach in 1734 and influenced the compositional structure of his Christmas Oratorio. This is believed to be its second performance since 1750.
